Terminal

A typographic bridge between realities

Human reality is shifting more and more into the digital realm. Screen time is increasing, and human-digital interaction is functioning more and more via visual elements. With the adaptation of new technologies such as augmented reality, the boundaries between physical and digital space will continue to blur. Given the current state of digital space as a toxic place for humans, there is a stance to take as a designer of these visual elements. From an ethical and technological point of view, the reduction of all visual elements to a single medium imposes itself.

The oldest and still most often used communication technology is language. Writing is manifested language. “Terminal” is an approach to rethinking the purely visual interaction of humans with digital space. Writing becomes an interface, the word becomes a layout, interaction becomes a dialogue.

As such, “Terminal” is both an experiment in speculative user interface design, as well as a typeface in development.
