Helmut Schmid Typography

Harmonizing design cultures

The Museum of Design Zurich trusted us with creating the advertising campaign and exhibition graphics for their exhibition on master typographer Helmut Schmid, who played an important role in bringing Swiss typography to Japan, where he worked for many decades. Reflecting the essence of Schmid’s design ethos, our design fuses the systematic with the ease of the accidental, strictness with poetry. It weaves the characteristics of Swiss and Japanese cultures to a bold but gentle visual symphony of meditative purity.

As our design uses a simple system—the orthogonal grid and two reading directions—to realize a delicate composition resulting from the content itself, a playful yet elegantly meditative design emerges.
