Collection Insights

Crafting visual narratives

The Museum of Design Zurich tasked us with creating the advertising campaign and exhibition design for their exhibition ‘Collection Insights: 7 Perspectives.’ The exhibition consists of seven unique perspectives on socially relevant topics sparked by the many different design objects found in the museum’s extensive collection. Our design portrays these seven viewpoints with a symbolic object for each. Playing with light and shadow, it reflects the exhibition’s goal to ‘illuminate’ the collection from different angles, and open up new ways of looking at it.

The key visual builds on the anatomy of a floor plan or a shelf, compartmented into seven unique rooms, each with its own theme. Thus by paying tribute to the act of archiving, it fundamentally symbolizes the collection.

An overlay of typography and color illustrates the activity of ‘scanning’ or ‘looking into something’. While a striking color palette of silver and fluorescent yellow enhances visibility, the typographic layout, reminiscent of stairs, reflects the exhibition’s setting in the museum basement.
